The Presbytery of Plomeur is an integral oart of the heritage of the village and its history.
Let's start with what happens before the construction of a Presbytery: the construction of a church, in this case, the Sainte-Thumette in Plomeur. This church was built in 1760 on the ruins of the old church. The building was built as a tribute to Sainte-Thumette. Legend has it that the Saint appeared to a peasant and asked him to let his oxen go where they wanted so they could define the place of construction of the church by stopping there. The peasant followed his animals from far and saw them stop precisely on the place where the church is now built from the plans of architect Augustin Regnault.
The Presbytery of Plomeur was built later in the early nineteenth century when the Parish grew to accomodate two priests who adminstered the parish. In 1905, at the time of the separation between the Church and the State, the majority of religious buildings previously owned by the Church were requisitioned by the French State. The parishioners of the municipality then contributed to buy the Presbytery from the state to ensure the preservation of its original function. Once the operation was completed they decided to bequeath the property to the association of the Diocese of Quimper, who remained the owner of the Presbytery up until 2019.
The Presbytery of Plomeur continued to function as a presbytery hosting at least one resident priest until the early 2000s. The Presbytery then continued to serve as a space dedicated to preparations for religious events and other Catholic activities.
The large additional spaces on the ground were lent to a local association called AFIDESA who work to recycle paper to finance the construction of schools in Burkina Faso. The association used the Presbytery to store large amounts of paper collected from inhabitants in the region.
In 2019 the decision was taken to sell the Presbytery, which has now been transfored into a large cottage to accomodate groups and holiday makers. The place is also used to organize festivals throughout the year, this animating the life of the municipality and the region.
